Editing an Item
Overview
Opening a single item (by clicking its ID on the Items list) shows that unit's detail page — its photo, current status, and full history — and lets you correct its barcode, serial number, cost, or location.
Required Permissions
- Inventory Item → Show Edit Item to open the page; Inventory Item → Update to change the details.
Navigation
Inventory → Items → (click an item's ID)
What's on the page
-
Item details — the unit's photo alongside a read-only summary: Stock Location, Serial Number, Barcode, Status, Mark (condition), and Cost. If the item is currently Rented, it also shows the Rent Start Date and Rent End Date.
-
Change Item Detail — a button (top-right) that opens a small form to edit the unit's:
- Stock Location (only shown while the item is In Stock),
- Barcode,
- Serial Number,
- Cost.
Barcodes and serial numbers must stay unique — the system rejects one already used by another item.
-
Item History — a table of everything that has happened to this unit: each status change with its date, the status at that point (with subscriber/invoice links where relevant), and any note. It can be exported (Copy / Excel / Print).
Important Notes
- The detail page is mostly read-only — the editable fields live inside the Change Item Detail form.
- To change what the item is doing (sell, rent, assign, return, move to internal usage, relocate), use the Action menu on the Items list instead — see Item actions.
