Edit and View a NAS
Overview
After a NAS is registered you can change its settings, reveal its shared secret when you need it, and review the history of changes. This page covers editing an existing NAS and viewing its secret safely.
Who Can Use This Feature
Network administrators and engineers.
Required Permissions
- NAS → Update to edit a NAS.
- NAS → Show to view its details and secret.
Prerequisites
- At least one NAS is already registered (see Add a NAS).
Navigation
Networking → NAS → choose a NAS row.
View the shared secret
- Go to Networking → NAS.
- In the Secret column, the value is hidden (shown as
*****). - Select View on that row to reveal the secret.
Only reveal a secret when you genuinely need it (for example when configuring the router), and never share it or include it in screenshots.
Edit a NAS
- Go to Networking → NAS.
- Open the NAS you want to change (its Edit action).
- Update the fields you need — for the full list see the Add a NAS field reference.
- Select Save.
Edit vs Add: the Edit screen shows the same sections as Add — AAA, Monitoring, Advance and (for hotspot devices) Hotspot — with the current values already filled in. There are no extra fields; you are simply changing what is already there. Avoid changing the IP Address or Shared Secret unless you also update the router to match.
What Happens After Saving
⚠ As with adding a NAS, saving restarts the RADIUS service so the change takes effect.
Important Notes
- Changing the IP Address, Shared Secret or CoA-Port must be matched on the router, or subscribers on that NAS may lose authentication or live-control.
- Use the Audit action to see the change history if something stops working after an edit.
Common Mistakes
- Editing the secret in Netzur but not on the router (or vice versa).
- Changing the NAS type on a device that already has live subscribers without planning for it.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Subscribers dropped after an edit | Secret/IP/CoA-Port no longer matches the router | Re-align the settings on both sides; check the Audit history. |
| Can't see the View link | Missing NAS → Show permission | Ask your administrator. |
